Whitman-Walker Sponsoring Pride Parade: Community health center also plans TransPride sponsorship, while Capital Pride opens ''Heroes'' nominations

News:

Capital Pride announced yesterday that Whitman-Walker Health, the nonprofit community health center specializing in LGBT and HIV/AIDS care, will be the presenting sponsor of the 2013 Capital Pride Parade, now in its 38th year.

The parade, part of the festivities surrounding Capital Pride, will be Saturday, June 8, at 4:30 p.m., traveling for 1.5 miles, from the West End/Dupont Circle neighborhood to 14th Street NW, between R and S Streets, in the Logan Circle neighborhood.

Whitman-Walker will also be a presenting sponsor of Capital TransPride, which will take place Saturday, May 18.

''Whitman-Walker Health is proud to be the health home of choice for so many individuals from metro DC's diverse LGBT communities,'' Don Blanchon, Whitman-Walker's executive director, said in a statement. ''As Presenting Sponsor of the Parade, we have a great opportunity to educate individuals about the importance of health and wellness in all aspects of their lives. But beyond this messaging, we really love participating in the Parade as it is a true celebration of diversity and community.''

''We are thrilled and excited to have Whitman-Walker Health as our presenting sponsor of the Parade and a presenting sponsor of TransPride this year,'' Ryan Bos, executive director of Capital Pride, said in a statement. ''Their continued commitment to the community is truly outstanding, and our partnership with Whitman-Walker Health has been and remains a key to our success.''

Pride has also begun accepting online nominations for Capital Pride Heroes, individuals who have made a significant contribution to the local LGBT community. The individuals are honored at various Pride events and, particularly, at one dedicated an annual gala and silent auction on May 29. Those wishing to submit nominations for 2013's Capital Pride Heroes may do so at capitalpride.org/heroes/nominate.
