The workshop will end with a discussion of the next frontier: gay marriage and how this relates to the control of our bodies, desires, and livelihoods.

When you work on improving your insides, the outside will automatically follow. This discussion will cover healthy food options and exercises that can be done at home with minimal equipment; the importance of reading the nutritional label and how to do so; and budget-friendly food options.

Though research indicates that domestic violence among same-sex couples occurs at similar rates as domestic violence among straight couples, same-sex relationships lack the legal recognition, law enforcement protection, and victim's resources available to their straight counterparts. This workshop will address the differences in abuse, types of abuse, and results of abuse that specifically impact our community.

Informing participants of their legally-protected rights under the DC Human Rights act regarding discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and educational institutions here in D.C. Specifically, the workshop will address participants being subjected to discrimination based on their gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, and/or race. In addition, participants will be given information on how to file complaints of discrimination with the DC Office of Human Rights and similar agencies around the country.

This forum is intended to further conversations by providing information, knowledge, and encouragement to those who are HIV-positive and dealing with depression, and for those who may not even know they are depressed, to reach out and seek help. While there are many different causes of depression for Black gay men, this discussion is intended to examine stigma and discrimination from the Black community, the Black gay community, and the wider community as a whole. This forum will also examine the biological effects of HIV on the brain, including dementia and depression.

This discussion will tackle issues facing aging LGBT couples (such as unequal treatment in hospital visitation, health decision-making, nursing care policies, Medicaid regulations, Medicare and Social Security coverage, pension and tax regulations, housing rights, and a host of other issues) that fundamentally affect their financial security, health status, and quality of life, and how we can assuage these issues as a community.

This workshop is designed to provide information about the transgender community to educate and enlighten others on the physical, emotional, and spiritual struggles of those who identify as transgender. Terms and their definitions will be presented and explored to assist in eradicating some of the myths and false presumptions about this population. During the discussion portion of this session, participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions and voice opinions as a means to foster a more positive inclusion of those who identify as transgender. Dr. Jefferson believes that educating ourselves is one of the strongest and most necessary steps we have as a means to unite and strengthen the relationships of those within the LGBTQ community and advocates.
