The case against a man accused of attacking a transgender woman in Chinatown in August has been continued to next month after the defendant's lawyer requested a change due to scheduling conflicts.
Ahmad Robinson, 29, of Silver Spring, faces a charge of simple assault, to which he pleaded not guilty Sept. 28. His lawyer, Joseph J. Bernard, is involved in jury selection in a trial for another client and this morning asked that the date of Robinson's status hearing be moved.
Robinson has been rescheduled to appear in D.C. Superior Court before Judge Herbert Dixon Jr. on Nov. 6. He remains released on bond, but must continue to report to the court's Pretrial Services Agency (PSA), continue with a drug treatment program, submit to regular drug testing and stay away from the victim in the case.
According to charging documents, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of an assault in progress in the 1000 block of 4th Street NW, located in the city's Chinatown neighborhood, Aug. 10 at approximately 12:45 a.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the victim at the corner of 5th and K Streets NW. The victim told officers that Robinson hit her in the face with a closed fist.
According to charging documents, Robinson asked the woman, ''Are you a bitch or nigga?'' to which she replied, ''What the fuck does it look like?'' Robinson then allegedly said, ''Motherfucka, you got a dick … take that shit to Sursum Corda,'' referring to a D.C. neighborhood close to several housing projects.
Robinson then allegedly knocked a beer out of the woman's hand and struck her. The victim told police she pursued her attacker down L Street NW and into a nearby Safeway, where she lost track of him.
About an hour later, Robinson, spotted in the area of the crime, was positively identified by the victim, whereupon MPD officers arrested him.
