Bouncing around Virginia as he grew up, Sean made the best of family troubles by focusing on gymnastics. His mother, a lieutenant colonel in the Army, was away for many of his teen years, and his parents eventually divorced. At 20, living with his maternal grandparents in Yorktown, Va., Sean has set his sights on a new goal. ''I've decided I want to join the military,'' he says, figuring he's got what it takes. ''I'm very athletic, a good listener, very headstrong.'' While Sean hasn't made his mind up about which branch, he's leaning hard toward the Marines. He'll be right at home with the few and the proud with no worries about being out. ''If someone asks, I'll be honest. I'm tired of being closeted.'' Till then, you've got a better chance of catching Sean at the beach surfing or in the hills snowboarding than at a bar or club. After all, he's not 21 till July. Besides, he wasn't too thrilled with his few gay-bar outings. ''It gets too touchy-feely, and the dancing is strange.''
